Flashback Friday
Goin’ Ape! Today, we’re going to take a look at the remake of King Kong.
Sorry, no, not that one. The one that came out in 1976.
That’s right: In 1976, audiences were treated to an updated version of King Kong, starring Jeff Bridges as a hippie action hero and, in her big screen debut, Jessica Lange.
I’ll admit that I don’t remember a lot about this film. I remember seeing it on TV as a kid, and that Jessica Lange made me tingly. I remember thinking that sitting in Kong’s paw probably felt like sitting on a really nice leather couch. I also seem to remember not being very impressed with the movie.
That seemed to be the concensous on this film, though one of the writers over at The AV Club doesn’t quite see it that way.

I remember when this came out. I also remember it had Dino de Laurentis’s name attached to it, and he had the balls to advertise this remake as “The Most Exciting Original Motion Picture Event of All Time.”
